Highland Hospital Radio receives £6000 double grant from YPI

As of recently, Highland Hospital Radio are very pleased to announce that through the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), they have received a combined grant of £6,000 from a group of students from Culloden Academy as well as Nairn.

The YPI is an active citizenship programme in which promotes young people making a difference in their community through gathering information on a charity of their choice, something they’re passionate about, and then delivering a presentation on that charity, discussing why they believe they deserve the grant.

Thomas Nelson, Chair of HHR, has been very open about his thanks to both schools, explaining that the money will be put towards new broadcast equipment for upcoming events. The whole team are so thankful for the opportunity to upgrade features of our broadcast system in which we take great pride in the upkeep of.

Three students from Nairn Academy were brought into the studio and given a tour of both studios as well as being invited to record a section to be played out on the radio. It was said that the engagement of the students was refreshing for the team to see, and they were happy to see how passionate the students were in learning about the equipment.

An honourable mention was also given on the show to Millburn Academy who joined us in the studio to gather information and have a tour, however, did not get picked for the grant this year. All interests shown and presentations given were highly appreciated.

Overall, more than 285 schools took part in YPI this academic year and since the programme begun in Scotland by the Wood Foundation in 2008, it has inspired over 350,000 young people to make a difference in their communities. It has always been valuable to hear the voices of young people, especially when regarding their communities, and the YPI has been a unique and affective way for these voices to make changes and bring attention to local charities like Highland Hospital Radio.
